IKEA
After years of freelancing and running my own business, 2017, I joined IKEA to bring my interior design expertise into a new environment based on life-at-home activities and commercial agenda and reach many more people. I had started as Interior Design Co-worker at IKEA Gdansk, and after six months, I became Deputy Communication & Interior Design Manager. One of my first assignments was to fit the IKEA Concept in 10m2 and co-create city centre customer meeting points called IKEA Goscinnie.

Joining IKEA Sendai team in 2018, I worked as Communication and Interior Design Manager. I secured the creative process and overall visual impact in the IKEA Sendai store. This function optimised the sales priorities and activities, ensuring the store's commercial team correctly understands store layout, range presentation, and in-store communication. We also built complete solutions tailored for our customers based on global home furnishing trends, social demographics and local insights. This way, I contributed to positioning the IKEA brand as the leader in life at home and delivering exceptional growth through inspiration. Therefore, being able to communicate the range to our customers and developing my team's home furnishing competence meant a great deal to me.

To create a better everyday life for the many people, the IKEA vision inspires me, especially to balance economic growth and positive social impact with environmental protection and regeneration. I wished to contribute to this movement and took the lead in creating the IKEA Sendai Sustainability Strategy. Together with stakeholders from different departments, we developed a living document and commitment to taking sustainability-driven actions.

In May 2021, I brought my recent retail experience to Inter IKEA Systems, IKEA's worldwide franchisor, and joined the Concept Description team. We ensure the relevance and effectiveness of the IKEA Concept globally and describe it to enable co-workers worldwide to implement it consistently in all markets. We are committed to improving our existing processes and creating new ways of developing, producing, and sharing conceptual content that enhances the user experience.

As a Concept Description Leader, I oversee strategic content development and build connections across the IKEA value chain. I work closely with cross-organisational teams to enrich and develop future-proof content by leading and securing the processes. I am also a proud facilitator of the Discovering the IKEA Concept training, which helps new managers understand the value and uniqueness behind the IKEA Concept.

Working for the IKEA franchisor allowed me to become an ambassador of the IKEA Foundation and facilitator of the digital customer experience master classes for social entrepreneurs taking part in the acceleration programmes in Poland, Romania and Mexico.

Staying connected with IKEA Poland, I have used my background in interior design, knowledge of the Polish home furnishing market, and IKEA product range to support the marketing team in creating content for the home makeover pages. On top of that, I have learned to moderate user-generated visual content to be published according to market-specific regulations, priorities, and focus areas, and I became one of the Yotpo content moderators for IKEA Poland. This experience and the digital marketing course I completed during my MBA helped me build digital range presentation and marketing competencies and understand omnichannel retailing challenges.

real estate
Between 2015 and 2018, my husband and I paired up to invest in Gdansk's real estate sector. Our business's core was buying, renovating, finishing and selling apartments to final users as ready products. It was a great experience running a small company from scratch (budgeting, organising, bookkeeping, promotion, sales, etc.) for both of us. My expertise led concept and detailed designs, developing and supervising contractor teams and order coordination.

interior design
With special affection for interior design, exploring life at home in different aspects and places worldwide has always been important to me. During my fifteen years of work, I have mastered a comprehensive approach to designing private and public interiors. Often, I have supervised finishing works and managed people and resources. This hands-on experience gave me a complete picture of the investment process.

Willingness to learn more about contemporary economic models led me to complete an MBA course focused on Innovation, Enterprise and Circular Economy in 2023. The curriculum, developed in partnership with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, included regenerative product design, new business models, materials, resources, energy and competitiveness, operations, marketing, and strategic management. The programme has equipped me with a deep understanding of contemporary economic models, cutting-edge business practices, and sustainability, providing me with many new skills and expertise.

Over the course, I delved deeply into a range of subjects, such as:

Circular Economy, its building blocks, system shifts and business models needed to bring it about at scale. I analysed IKEA's business model and its efforts to change the business into a circular and suggested improvements to make use of the circular practices more effectively in terms of sustainability.

Accounting and finance of Home Depot. I examined whether the company's condition should concern shareholders by analysing its financial performance and economic environment.

Material ecology, a new design approach which targets long-term solutions to reverse the dominance of human-made goods over biomass. I learned how material development can disrupt the manufacturing industry and its challenges and barriers when moving into the marketplace.

Materials, resources, energy and competitiveness. I studied the use of recycled polyester in the apparel industry and whether recycling is the way to sustainable business and reducing harmful environmental practices.

Digital marketing communication strategy. I designed a customer experience map for Solar (Polish fashion brand) to win the online marketplace, influence new consumers' purchasing decisions and shape successful customer relationships.

Leadership for transformational change. I analysed a brick-and-mortar business attempting to embrace the omnichannel environment. I studied key reasons employees may resist a change programme and searched for the tools to overcome that resistance.
As my final management project, I researched the factors to consider for integrating second-hand solutions into the IKEA business. Following Circular Economy and system thinking concepts, I created a framework to help IKEA design the value proposition, capture, and integration process. During this process, I deepened my knowledge about brand consistency, market relevancy, meaningful retailing and consumption.
